Blog Interaction #4

As we hit the mid-point of the semester, I think this would be a good time to have you throw out some questions about social media, especially in light of all that you’ve read and observed thus far.

Do you have any questions or areas that you would like to see our class cover in the remaining weeks of the course?

Do you need any clarification on concepts or methods used in Social Media Marketing?

If you can’t think of responses to these questions, please share two most important principles you’ve learned from your reading this week.

Blog Interaction Week 1

Blog Interaction Week 1

The world of communication is shifting and evolving at exponential speed. Social media is one of the primary drivers of this movement. Based on this week’s readings from Kanter and Qualman, choose one of the following set of questions to comment on (see Weekly Blog Interaction page for instructions):

  1. Based on what you’ve learned this past week from class, how would you respond to someone who thinks, “Social media is a waste of time!”?
  2. How have companies used social media to strengthen their customer service? Which example were you most surprised by in Socialnomics and why?
  3. What are your thoughts about the idea that social media may have retarded people’s ability to communicate verbally or in person? Do you agree? Why or why not?
  4. Why do you think some companies or organizations fear what would happen if their customers took ownership of their brand? How would you respond to those who do?
  5. Qualman mentions that successful companies in social media will function more like entertainment companies, publishers, or party planners rather than as traditional advertisers. What does he mean by this and can you give an example from your own experience?
  6. Why is a network’s “edge or periphery” on social media so vital to its growth? Give a scenario in the life of an organization or business where this might indeed be the case.
  7. Why does Kanter call social capital the not-so-secret network sauce to social media? Have you ever experienced trust and reciprocity online? Share your story.
